Covers creased, soiled, wear to tips, corners and edges, dampstaining to preliminaries. Emerson Liscum, a Vermonter, enlisted as a private in April, 1861 during the first days of the Civil War. Having been commissioned in February, 1863 Liscum remained in the service of his country until July 13, 1900 when he was killed in action while leading his troops to suppress Chinese rebels in the Boxer Rebellion. In the interim he saw service in the Indian Wars, the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection.
