The prince, a nephew of the Emperor Napoleon, visied America at the start of the Civil War. He observed the Battle of Bull Run and many other events of that turbulent period. The book is a collection of letters by the prince's aide-de-camp Camille Ferri-Pisani, a French military officer who accompanied him of his journey.
