First printing, no others noted. Herman Kogan (1914 - 1989) was an American journalist who spent fifty years covering the city of Chicago, many with the Chicago Daily News and Chicago Sun-Times. At the tiime of this books publication the venerable Encyclopaedia Britannica had become a Chicago institution published by the University of Chicago which owned a half share in the work.
