Much shelf wear to tips, corners and edges of book, page edges soiled; no jacket. Imprimatur of Patrick Riordan, Archbishop of San Francisco. First printing, no others noted. Father Peter Christopher Yorke (1864 -1925 in San Francisco, California)[1] was an Irish-American Catholic priest and a noted Irish Republican and Labor activist in San Francisco. Author of the best-selling text book The Ghosts of Bigotry, re-published in San Francisco 1913 from new plates, the originals having been destroyed in the Earthquake and Fire of 1906. It was the genesis work of the Catholic Truth Society, in response to an anti-Catholic literary campaign by the American Protestant Association, and a frank account of the "Black Myths" of English Protestant opposition to the Roman Catholic Church from the reign of Elizabeth the First through to Catholic Emancipation and the failed Ecclesiastical Titles Bill in the 19th Century. Its concluding chapter sets the scene of Catholic resurgence in the USA. Every Palm Sunday the United Irish Societies of San Francisco hold a memorial celebration of Father Yorke at Holy Cross Cemetery. Most items ship with free delivery confirmation, electronic tracking and jacket protectors (generally over $10.00) if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.
