light wear to the book and jacket which has a creased rear flap; top edge dusty, else clean and unmarked. First printing, no others noted. The enormously popular stories (by Sommerville and Ross) juxtaposed the comic and the serious, capturing the dialect of the servants who ministered in the vast, drafty houses of their "betters." Even after Martin's death in 1915, Somerville continued to list her cousin's name as collaborator. This unique relationship is here explored in letters, diaries and photographs that not only limn the separate and entwined lives of two talented women but also illumine a vanished world. Gifford Lewis, a British writer and academic, has previously published books on Scots and Irish genealogy and paleography. Her interest in the two women began like so many others as an avid reader and became that of the serious scholar. Most items ship with free delivery confirmation, electronic tracking and jacket protectors (generally over $10.00) if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.
